Tobacco Road

About

Tobacco Road held the distinction of "Miami's oldest bar," tracing its liquor and cabaret license to 1912, and it survived Prohibition (when it operated as a bakery-front speakeasy with an illicit second-floor casino frequented by figures like Al Capone), the Great Depression, and decades of Miami history. Later known as a live jazz and blues venue hosting acts such as John Lee Hooker, the South Miami Avenue bar closed permanently on October 26, 2014, and the building was subsequently demolished.
