About

Founded in 1589 as the royal brewery of the Kingdom of Bavaria, the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is one of the oldest beer halls in the world. Mozart drank here, regulars keep personal steins locked in the hall's stein safes, and the brass band has been playing under the painted vaulted ceilings for generations. It survived wars, rebuilding, and mass tourism to remain Munich's most famous address for a Maß of Hofbräu Original.

Our History

We came for one beer on our last night in Munich and stayed for four hours, wedged between a retired couple from Augsburg and a bachelor party from Ohio. By the end of the night we knew the words to the Prosit song, and the coaster under our shared Maß went home as evidence.
